This copiable resource book and CD, both suitable for Primary School children, contain information on Christmas customs and traditions in France throughout December to Epiphany on January 6th. The information included is for the teacher and has been selected to include ideas likely to appeal to the 7-11 year old age group. The introduction suggests web-sites for finding a partner school and for finding information and activities about Christmas in France. Activities include traditional French Christmas stories, some in English and some in simple French with an English transcript, an English script for a “pastorale” which includes aspects of French Christmas traditions and legend, activities, songs, games, puzzles, a recipe, copiable illustrations and storyboards and game cards. All activities are introduced in the Teachers’ notes. The snowmen and their related activities (e.g. 5-a-side football, snowboarding) are introduced as a fun element based on a winter theme. Six Christmas songs are included, five traditional French songs and one original song. These are presented on the CD by a native speaker who speaks the dialogue, followed by a vocal and an instrumental version for each song. The songs are “La marche des Rois”, “Dors ma colombe”, “Noël Noël”, “Un flambeau”, “Pat-a-pan” and “Tous les santons”. Some of the words have been adapted to make them suitable for young language learners. The French stories are also read on the CD by a native speaker. The spoken word on the CD can be used for listening activities.
